Which reminds me of the young Roger Waters scwoling his way through some
shots in "Pink Floyd at Pompei," ready to kill the tv interviewer who'd
asked his opinion of a music producer better left namless: "Yeah, he knows
what he *likes* [all snarly contempt], that's the extent of it..."  

I love Pynchon's writing, have for years, but also have to agree with
Steve's wife that very large chunks of it are "novels... for guys."   Still,
compared to Mailer's....
