Plist ethos (was TIMES article)

I share Jester's curiosity and respect regarding P's privacy.
Regarding other comments made by John Mascaro, I'd like to make a few
points.
1. As far as "soul-searching" is concerned, Chris and other PLNY people
deserve some recognition for doing a good share of this for months. I know
that Chris invested considerable time and effort helping to assure that
communications with Chrissie were handled in an ethical manner.
2. Furthermore, many other plisters (but not all of them) appear to be
pretty good "soul-searchers" as well. I think the real issue has more to
do with informed plisters simply being "green" when it comes to the fact
that there are people out there (lurking, trolling, in barrooms, etc.)
whose livelihoods or hobbies have something to do with getting information
from "sources." So they end up with regrets about having expressed
themselves in a manner that, in hindsight, they find somewhat regrettable.
3. The concerns aren't limited to "freelance journalists" or, for that
matter, full-timers or even petulant academics. It's not the profession
but the person(ality) that poses potential problems.
3. Let's not kid ourselves about TP's position here. He's a pretty smart
cookie who's been extremely good at maintaining a high degree of privacy
for decades. Now he's settled down a bit. He's married to a major agent.
Between the two of them, I'm sure they have some clue they know what
they're doing with the promotion of M&D. Anyone who feels "we" should fall
in line with TP's desire for privacy out of respect or worship for him
might be a little more accepting of the assorted promotional events (i.e.
the write-alike (not lookalike) contest, the panel discussion at the New
School, the puppet show) that he and his wife apparently approve or at
least condone.
