Oh yeah- "Daydream Nation" also contains plenty of Neuromancer references
as well- esp. "The Sprawl Trilogy" portion. 

If any band understands being "in the Zone", it's Sonic Youth. I highly
recommend the film "The Year Punk Broke" for a thorough send-up of
"grunge", pop music, the media, politics, drugs, bad food, etc etc... 
And damn good dense and searing MUSICK.
