"Iskander" and variations is "Alexander" in various Levantine languages.
Spelled _with_ the beginning "i" we find Iskenderun or Iskenderon,
formerly Alexandretta, city & port S Turkey on Gulf of Iskenderun (inlet
of the Mediterranean), pop. 69,382.
