It's not just Bianca, or Geli, or flavorful Darlene Quoad. Look past the
author's need to hustle him across Europe  to the next episode, and Tyrone
really *is* a sweet guy, at least as eager to grab some tenderness and
intimacy as some ass.

Well, yes... and the "mechanization" in V. set us all up for that
reading... but there's an alternate take on GR in which many of the
encounters read like love breaking through routine, ulterior motives, and
control. On the edge of failure, but also on the edge of the green fuse
blowing flowers in all directions.

When Slothrop goes out of sync and his frames slope off in all directions,
that means to me he's everywhere and -when. The rainbow is as pervasive as
gravity.  Even at the very last moment in Cinema Zhlubb, I think, our boy
could pop onto the screen:

"Hey, foax, there *is* another reel up here in the booth, sez
'Counterforce' on the can, if ya want it bad enough..."
