On Vineland!

Parallel to M&D I'm reading "The Vineland Papers" (don't have the 
editors' names at hand at the moment, but I could look it up, if you're 
interested). That's a compilation of scholarly articles on the book 
which gives a good overview of the thematic backgrounds and helps you 
give reasonable judgment. Personally, I, too, think it is his weakest 
book, yet, compared to the entire world of literature it still is a very 
remarkable one. Not only the temporal twists and turns, but also the 
grandiose humor kept me going. And it is his most openly political work 
- and that I liked as well, especially since I can relate to his own 
position which can be gleaned from between the lines.
