Thanks, MantaRay; this last posting was far more engaging than your earlier
triadic "STALKER sucks" rant. Just a few teensy replies:

>>Okay, MR, how about chacun a son gout? Or, de gustibus non disputandem est?
>
>Come again?

Chacun a son gout. French: Each to his own taste.

De gustibus non disputandem est. Latin: There's no disputing taste
(Literally, if my recollection of these constructions serves, it's:
Concerning taste one must not contend.) I like chocolate; my friend loathes
it. Neither is wrong.

>I never told you all that you were wrong.

Not in so many words. Your pronouncements with regard to the movie were
absolute, which amounts to the same thing. "Sucks" is monologic.

<snippage--eloquent disparagement of binarism>
>We've been
>lambasting any critic who said one bad word about M&D without considering the
>fact that it might very well be accurate. I'm deep into M&D now, and, truth
>be told, I'm miles away from the breathlessness I felt when first
>encountering GR.

Not often. One reader actually said she or he was hoping to see a
thoughtful negative response. I have yet to see a thoughtful negative
response, just drivel like Pekar's Pynchon bashing, which didn't even
address the book, or that fellow who abandoned M&D as plotless after 50
pages. M&D no doubt has flaws, but it certainly isn't plotless. Compared to
most Pynchon works, M&D is downright linear.

>Actually, I thought Safe was awesome, as well as Todd Haynes' first movie
>which creeped me out.

Is that the one with the Barbie dolls? I've been looking for that. What's
it called?

Oh, and I'm sure my wife will be pleased by your response.

Thanks again, MR.
