Also: anyone any thoughts on 'pollicate' which he uses several 
times in the book & then 'desuperpollicates'  (581) as in 

"Mr Walford peers over at his Wife, who for the second time tonight 
desuperpollicates, with a mischievous tho' unwavering smile"
