another modest proposal

As a digest subscriber, there's something invigorating about getting 42K
of bile, sanctimoniousness, and rancour dropped in my mailbox several
times a day ...

But seriously, a question for Ms. DYBlaine: is it too civil to ask Mr.
Dinn for some more argumentation for why he evidently dislikes COL49?
The response might be interesting, and could generate productive
counter-responses -- ie., a dialogue.

Instead, we have that venerable rhetorical crutch, the ad hominem
attack. "You are a sexist" forecloses dialogue, producing vacuous agon
in its place, when one puts an opponent in the position of firing back,
"I'm not a sexist."

Increasingly, this list seems to be a forum for people to accuse each
other of racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, elitism, etc. This is
discursive brutality and, frankly, is utterly uninteresting.

Regards,
Paul
