First let me say Andrew, we can all hope that TRP is with us (in some
ways he is, ain't he, since his writing _is_ the man). Surely, he can
get an internet account for free from any public library in the States,
nowadays. total anonymity. Come on Mr. P, we're waiting (don't call him
Tom?)
also, you sed:

with film. Vineland is saturated with TV. (I'll follow Pynchon in
discounting TCOL49)....

Why discount 49? Isn't 49 the most direct emblem of communication,
namely the Word itself. There wasn't any subsuming mode/vehicle to
encapsulate 49, like TV or film--is this why you discount? Just
curious...
