This "converstaion" about Vidal started so long ago and has developed into such 
a garden of the forking paths, "getting fatter and fatter as the interlocks 
develop," that I am experiencing debate overload.  Guess my data-retrieval isn't 
up to par.

Best strategy before further back and forth is to get the texts (Vidal's, list 
members', and your own):  go _actually_ read or re-read the Vidal essay, 
"Plastic Fiction."
