Same here.  I'd say CoL49 is even my number ONE!!  It was my first Pynchon
way back when I was a virgin to all this, and Oedipa my first REAL "girl"
hero!  Like St. Pauli says, "You never forget..."  Oedipa proved to be an
independent, strong, and decidely feminine character who overshadowed any
male character in the book.  Helped me make the leap from phallocentric fiction.

And a DAMN good intro to the Pynchon mythos for any newbie!
