It does seem unnecessarily hard, Diana, but I have just received 
confirmation that I am off. If you're serious - and this isn't meant as 
encouragement to do it or not - try sending to 

listserv at waste.org. 

Ignore the subject and simply type:

signoff pynchon-l

After a while you'll be sent a message asking you to confirm. Sometime 
after you do that, the axe falls.
