Oy oy, of course it's Ireland.  Thanks for the correction, Paul.  But isn't Deasy English?

The English guy was is the first chapter--Haines by name. Just got my
book out to check. Another set of yellowed, falling-out pages. Deasy appears to be quite Irish.  Rants a bit about England being in the hands of the Jews. Then at the end of the chapter springs the Irish solution on poor politely-listening but long-suffering Stephen. God, what a writer Joyce is!

I say this about Ulysses finding little or no pleasure in READING the Wake. Do listen to the 17-CD recorded set of the Wake. Letting the sound bathe over one is very pleasurable and quite meaningful too in its own way.  Couldn't resist this chance at a little plug for another favorite author.
