Here we should further note that the word *explicate*, that bugbear of intro to lit classes, 
literally means--*to unfold*
so the parallel you're drawing between what happens w/in the book and what happens 
between reader and book is strengthened, IMO, by this lexical knot.  As well as the thought 
that this novel is a lot concerned w/ how to read a Pynchon (or any other?) fiction.
