On second (but not necessarily more sober) thought, to the extent that
Slothrop was dowsing future rocket hits with his DICK (a dowsing rod, to be
sure), you may be onto something, Paul. That'd be a pretty sly and comical
way for TRP to have admitted the influence you suggest. It also occurs to
me that Pynchon and P.K.Dick might have known each other, since they were
both living in the bay area in the sixties. -j minnich
