This talk investigates the secret racist cults of Vienna and Munich and
their influence on the Nazi Party. It draws on Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke's
highly regarded book The Occult Roots of Nazism, which was developed from
his Oxford doctoral thesis. Hitler's vision of a battle for planetary
dominion and Himmler's interest in runes and magic were rooted in an occult
view of the universe which found grim fulfillment in Auschwitz and
Treblinka. The myths underlying such mass movements still possess power to
mobilize anger, hatred and resentment. This evening alerts us to the Nazi
shadow and shows how each of us, every human heart, must resist the
darkness.
