Renata mentions the "L.A. factor" as a possible similarity.

The locale WAS so obviously L.A. as not to require express mention, BUT
was anyone besides me puzzled by why then THE ELECTRIC CHAIR was brought into a California setting? I think I am remembering right and I realize I am off the point. (Or am I?)

...there had come this long-distance call, from where she would never
know...
"I think it's time Wendell Maas had a little visit from The Shadow."

The film is in an air-conditioned vault at one of the Hollywood studios,
light can't fatigue it, it can be repeated endlessly.

"Of course not," said Oedipa, "the movie's made." He only smiled back.
"One of your endless repetitions."
Page 42:
"She awoke at last to find herself getting laid; she'd come in on a
sexual crescendo in progress, like a cut to scene where the camera's
already moving."
Page 46:
"It may have been an intuition that the letter would be newsless inside
that made Oedipa look more closely at its outside, when it arrived."

The letter in Lynch is a video.

And then there's the L.A. factor.

"One thing we can do," announced the father, "go to the bottom, try to
get _under_ the net."
