Breaking the Waves

Comparing this film to TP is no great service to TP.  The actress is
brilliant and the premise (that a woman can dictate what her God says
to her) is intriguing but not new in schizzy characters.  The ending is
1940ish Hollywood, or a parody thereof.  Perhaps the title literally
refers to the male lead's
work on an oil rig off the Scottish coast--and metaphorically to breaks in
brain waves experienced by both the male and female leads: he's knocked
into a coma and she wigs in and out of the voice (presumably the mind) of
God.  
 There's been a good deal of chatter about the portrayal of the woman at 
the IPSA (Institute for Psychological Study of the Arts) site.
