They came before _GR_ was released, n'est-ce pas?
What can all you, uh, "professional" paranoids tell me about The Insect
Trust, of which Pynch was reputed to be a member?
Incidentally, muchas gracias to all who responded to the Pynch pix
request!! I found 2 pix on the web that I'd never seen; hopefully, the
"card" guy'll go w/the Navy picture (we should throw on a few "Leis" in
Photoshop, first, maybe). I could *totally see* that guy being cast in the
film version of the first chapter of _V_ (one of the great moments in the
litrachoor). For your copy of the fabulous Trading Card, address yerselves
to <read at booksmith.com>.
There's also gonna be some sorta E-Z quiz/raffle for a free copy of _M & D_
(at first, the publicist said it'd be autographed! Then, she said
"probably not". Oh well.) And, hopefully, door prizes for "best costume"
in the vainhearty attempt to get Pynchon fans to come to the gala fĂȘte
dressed as their favorite character (or as Pynch, preferably the navy
years). I was pushing for some slightly tougher questions (What bodily
gland grows to gigantic proportions in _GR_? Also in that novel, what
African-American civil rights leader attempts to sodomize protagonist
Tyrone Slothrop in his drug-induced delusion?), but the actual questions
will be much easier. Again, address all questions regarding what is
essential a lottery to <read at booksmith.com>, or check at
http:www.booksmith.com
for details about the event. Plug, plug, ugh...
