Here are a few words from Tom himself on the subject of skiffy:
"In the decade after Hiroshima, science fiction saw one of the
most remarkable flowerings of literary talent and, quite often, genius, in
our history."
from "Is it OK to be a Luddite"
NYT Book Review Oct. 28 1984
and from the intro to 'Slow Learner " on the subject of mortality in
fiction.....
"I suspect one of the reasons that fantasy and science fiction
appeal so much to younger readers is that, when the space and time have
been altered to allow characters to travel easily anywhere through the
continuum and thus escape physical dangers and timepiece inevitabilities,
mortality is so seldom an issue."
TRP was one of those younger readers in the decade after
Hiroshima....
