Ceclia Holland, an historical novelist, wrote a quite good SF
novel in the '70s called FLOATING WORLDS. Taking a cue from the
the recent oil embargoes, the humans inhabiting the
moons of the gas giants in the future were the OPEC of their time,
controlling vast stocks of hydrocarbon precursors... with
ritualistic-in-the-Asian-sense cultures in charge..
