Don't know if it's the first, second, third, or whatever rule, but one key
principle of Netiquette is that "private email stays private" unless
permission is specifically granted. If one wants to "warn" people that
private mail may be made public, it's best that a note to that effect
appear on one's sig *at all times*.
BTW, even though it may be difficult for Someone to research the history of
email publishing, total authorial control, and terms like "Anglo-Saxon"
without the unpaid and voluntary assistance of P-listers, it's childishly
simple to look up Netiquette on the Internet. All one needs to do is take
a break from churning out email, conduct a Web Search, and click away.
