I'm sure this is an intentional anachronism...like the joke at the end of
Ch. 1 (p.10) which I've not seen mentioned yet:

"Keep away from harmful Substances, in particular Coffee, Tobacco and Indian
Hemp.  If you must use the latter, do not inhale."
