	the ariel song from the tempest - "where the bee sucks" - is sung,
as i recall, immediately prior to ariel's release from servitude to
prospero.  and, keeping in mind the recent vogue of reading the tempest in
a post-colonial fashion, any and all connections to american expansion on
TRP's part certainly seem within reason.  have to admit that i do not own
M & D yet, nor will i for some time due to constraints of academia, but
this is offered with all humility and the acknowledgement of its possible
lack of value.  and, BTW, if mention of the east india company is of
interest, there is a novel i read several years ago entitled _lempriere's
dictionary_ by laurence norfolk that not only relates, but actually
reminded me of V. when i read it.  enjoy what you can and disregard what
you will.
