And just to touch on Ebonics again, it's interesting to note that "aks"
preceded "asks" as a widely accepted form of English.  Also that writers
have recognized an African-American linguistic system for a long, long
time--way before the coinage of Ebonics in the Seventies.  O'Neill and many
other talented souls worked very hard at capturing its nuances.
