Just took my english lit. AP exam today. The free response question was on
parties and social occasions, and how they reflected on the societies that
held them. How perfect for Gravity's Rainbow is that? Much thanks to all
the folks who contributed to the Anubis discussion and provided the seeds
of my essay... And if any of you happens to be an AP reader, let's just
hope that even if my prose doesn't sway you towards a 9, my unwavering
devotion towards TRP will.
Random Stuff on M+D:
I noticed the cheese wheel song goes awful well to "The Yellow Rose
of Texas," but maybe that's just because there was a Dickenson poem on the
AP test...(with bees, no less, hyaugh, hyaugh)
Also much thanks to whoever it was that pointed out the "Brazil"
reference on pg. 90. I'm almost positive that it's a fit.
I didn't catch the string theory reference on page 56(?), so if
someone who knows more than I do would like to help out?
I've noticed that M+D's prose gets much nicer, rhapsodic, and closer
to GR in general after the long digression on exotic foods. Guess Pynchon
finally hit his stride.
Finally, one more impassioned plea for anyone who can complete
Dixon's joke, "A priest and a jesuit walk into a bar.."
Gershom Bazerman (from the wrong address)
