Your points are excellent re: just about everything, but especially about
MAo II.  I've heard some say Bill Gray is modeled after Pynchon/Salinger,
but it's hard for me to think of Pynchon as being anything like Gray
because Gray doesn't seem to have much fun working on his long-awaited
novel.  From the sightings and the last two books (Vineland and M&D), he
seems to be having a great deal of fun indeed.  Thoughts?
