Ted comments of Cinco de Mayo:
"It is celebrated all over Mejico and commemorates the victory
of the Mexican army over the French at the Battle of Puebla (the Frogs
call it the Battle of Camarone and the French Foreign Legion has
a memorial to the fallen there every year on that date. It was the
worst defeat by the French until the battle of Dien Bien Phu, which
is also commemorated on that date). The Mexicans were commanded by
General Ignacio Zaragoza who was born in Goliad, Texas in the 1820's
I seem to recall. He was wounded at this battle and died from this
a few days after the battle."
