     It can now be revealed (sennet, please) that the True Author(s) of 
     _Vineland_ were Gary Snyder and Louis Zukofsky, with Walter Abish 
     contributing the chapter where all the words began with a letter other 
     than "a."
     
     Bloom knew this, of course, because John Hollander told him. Hollander 
     heard it from (the should-be-sainted) Edward Mendelson, who heard it   
     from John Romano, who heard it from Joan Didion, who wished she could write
     that well and made the whole thing up, never knowing that she was right.

piece of crap, vineland (considering the writer--which brings up a point 
i'd be interested in opinions about: harold bloom, at the time of its 
publication, suggested that the book was not written by tp. perhaps jd 
salinger wrote it)
