     (In best Alicia-Silverstone-as-Emma voice): Well, =of course=, we'd 
     =expect= you to tell us that.  But we did notice that you "went away" 
     for two weeks =just at publication time=, and had miraculously =read 
     the entire book= when you returned.
     
     Also, you said you could probably make the birthday celebration, and 
     then =mysteriously= discovered that you had =work= (research for the 
     next novel, perhaps, or a quiet dinner with the family?) to do and 
     couldn't make it.
     
     But don't worry, "Richard," your secret is safe with us...
