So I always thought until I was corrected, last week. Apparently it's
application is restricted to inhabitants of Newcastle, the largest
city in the North East. North Easterners from outside Newcastle appear
to object vocally to being called Geordies.

Geordie is also a common nick name for people called George . . .
wait for it . . . yup, throughout the North East.
