Feng shui

Interestingly enough, the same issue of _The New Yorker_ that has Anthony
Lane's review of _M&D_ has an article that mentions feng shui.  The article
is actually about the handover of Hong Kong from Britain to China.  It
mentions that China's chosen leader for Hong Kong, who will take power July
1, is an ardent believer in feng shui.  He will not live in the British
governor's palace, b/c his geomancers tell him it has bad feng shui (being
surrounded by taller buildings, including the Bank of China skyscraper which
faces the palace with a sharp "axe"-like edge).

The same article (not unsurprisingly) mentions the East India Company, in
reference to the opium trade...
