P-list: zines on ether

This whole controversy about flames vs. substantive discussion,
general interest topics vs. focus on TRP and his works, is just
_so_ old and depressing. For decades prior to the Net, the same
issues were played out in SF fandom and in the pages of its zines.
"Sercon" (serious and constructive) zines vs. "perszines" (personal
zines), "fanfeuds" in letter columns which extended over years,
with the initial Hatfield-McCoy source of argument long lost
in personal tirades..... Haven't we learned anything? I am
minded to coin a new maxim: "Cyberogony recapitulates mimeography."
