Paul York sez:

If nothing else, there's this:

There will be only ONE first time to read this book; only one first time to
come crashing, full speed into one of the unbelievable puns; to come, all
unexpected, from a fairly common (to Pynchon) comedic scene into a sudden
paragraph of such breathtaking beauty & sadness; etc etc etc

To have these surprises and delights dissected and beaten into the ground
before you've had a chance to read them IN CONTEXT would be a crying shame.

And that's what the whole spoiler brouhaha is about.
