As it has been noticed by many already, the novel metafictionally
refers to itself as a "Sandwich". Yet there may be another, more 
hidden structural metaphor to it, which would make an allusion to 
Lot 49, and tribute to Remedios Varo: triptych. In M&D's case,
however, not embroidering, but rather "Cutting the Earth's Mantle."
