Some chronology: FP was published in 1964 - That means he finished
THE GODFATHER in 1968"

Latest interview with Puzo (he lives in Bay Shore LI) by Camille Paglia
in NY Times last week; He told her the character of Don Corleone was
heavily influenced by his mother. By the way, being 100% Sicilian, I
would recommend _Open Doors_ by L. Scalscia (sp!)--makes Puzo look like a
hack-- evocative tales of murders, political intrugue, religious
hypocrisy in modern-day Sicily--I kinda get disgusted with the
romanticization of these Corleone goons--Sicily's a pretty grim place.
