Dave tells Newbie, who's alarmed to find "squabbles, name calling and petty
bickering" on what should be this Band of Brothers, that "Things will get
better. I promise you."  

Why?--the Slippery Slope Up?  

A-and, proving he's learned nothing from the recent ominous turns a la list,
Dave leaves himself wide open by giving said Newbie a legally-binding oral
contract guaranteeing satisfaction.  Risky business considering how obsessive
(without being entertaining) certain underutilized reference librarians at
fancy-schmancy private schools seem to be.  At least the ex-pat gives some
grins.
