I say:

The Marx Bros pre-date POGO by a number of decades - Much of the material
in there films is actually drawn from their old stage routines - I think it
would
be very difficult to trace the exact origin of the above but I also think
that it's
safe to say it doesn't start with POGO

There is an excellent reference source : THE MARX BROS ENCYCLOPEDIA - The
organization
is a little odd - For example, in order to find out the brothers' various
birth dates you don't look under
the heading for each brother you look under "births" - A lot of useful fact
bundled into one
volume though
