The whole motif of interiors being bigger than exteriors rates
an entry in the new John Clute ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FANTASY, under
the heading "Little, Big", derived from the John Crowley novel of
the same name. And of course the famous Robert heinlein story
"And he Built a Crooked House" is perhaps the most famous SF
example of same.
