In the UK we have a series of `Bluffer's Guides To ________' which,
despite living up to their title, often manage to give a fair intro to
their subject and are usually quite funny to an expert in the relevant
field. The best one I have read was the guide to `Economics' which
contains the best and at the same time jokiest one-line summary of the
subject I have ever encountered. The Literature guide is not bad at
providing an overview of the various Lit-Crit camps and quantifying
the hare (or lack thereof, naturally) in their respective brains.
