  My reply : Yeah, I read it years ago as a kid, before I discovered TRP.
It's a fictionalized take on the Earp/Tombstone legend, later made into
a movie starring, I believe, Richard Widmark.

  Though my memories of it have dimmed, I can't believe that it was
anything more than undergrad overenthusiasm that led to its TRP
touting. _Warlock_'s take on the familiar tale is the clash between
the town's business community, represented by the Earp-figure (law
and, you guessed it, order) and the rural cowboy/outlaws (freedom
and lawlessness).

  Don't misunderstand me, it's a good Western. It's not a great
novel.
