PoMo no mo'

Some component of virtually all discourse attempts to be persuasive. I'm
all for the occasional "position paper" that hoists an idea or two up the
flagpole and sees who salutes. But the persuasive components on both (all?)
sides of this PoMo discussion are likely to be nil. We're not neccessarily
talking past each other, but I think this thread has as much chance of
changing other people's positions as does a discussion between, say,
stringent supporters of different sides on the abortion issue(s). Fire away
if you like, but I prefer the palpable warmth of literally pissing in the
wind to its colder figurative counterpart.
By the way, I readily admit that I'm one of those academics who doesn't have
the sense to come out of the rain. So what? Sort of like saying you
wouldn't trust a mechanic who couldn't discuss Proust. Or a surgeon who
couldn't fix elevators. I think common sense is a bit rarer commodity than
we'd like to believe, inside the ivory tower and out.
Multiply damp,
