not really a spoiler....
the author thanks the John T and Catherine D MacArthur Foundation.  Think 
Pynch got a giggle over getting almost half-a million from a fdn from the 
estate of a man with a distinctly different political persuasion from 
TRP.  JM must be turning over in his grave.  You see he didn't leave any 
specific plans for all the wealth he amassed, primarily through the 
Bankers Life and Casualty Company of Chicago.  His cronies on the board 
of his fdn, all former Banker's Life folks, pretty much came up with the 
genius grant program which Pynch rec'd in the late '80s.  poetic justice 
I guess....
