I dunno. When I read this scene I thought something along the lines of
"Geez...this is just silliness." But then, Monty Python doesn't make me
laugh like they used to either.
I also found the "live long and prosper" line to be rather purposeless. I
suppose if you're a diehard Trekkie then you might have been just about
crapping in your drawers at that point, but...?
I've seen some p-listers make comparisons of M&D to Garcia Marquez. Well,
100 Years of Solitude also bored the living daylights out of me.
I'm currently reading Gaddis' The Recognitions, for the first time, and am
finding it much more enjoyable than I found M&D. Maybe when I'm done with
Gaddis I'll go back to M&D...I'm hoping that it is better the second time
around.
