I read several of Erickson's books, including Rubicon Beach, and found
them interestingly bizarre but ultimately rather shallow, more
exercises than anything very readable. It is probably worth
experiencing at least one of them but they are not on my reread pile.
I think I preferred Tours of the Black Clock(?) and Arc d'X to Rubicon
Beach.
