The stoned reading

Craig writes:
Anyone else with fond memories of a stoned reading? Alas, as I write this,
a big salty tear of nostolgia forms in the corner of my eye. Pot and
graduate school don't mix well, especially coming 'round the home stretch,
but alcohol is amazingly congenial with my lifestyle. As I'm writing this,
11 am central time or so, it's far too early for a drink. But it was never
too early to smoke a bowl.
On the theory that statistical backup never hurts this morning's N.Y Times
(on the page opposite the disgusting food article cited by David) contains the
following valuable information and I quote: A study of undergraduates at the University of Maryland found that those with the lowest grade averages were four times more likely to smoke pot than those with the highest. No such gap was observed between good and poor students who drank alcohol.
On Craig's main point (stoned reading) I sympathize. Was just thinking reading
the newspaper of record how much nicer it would be if it arrived on my
doorstep in the afternoon or early evening. Could pour over it after several
ounces of Scotch. Has anyone besides me ever noticed how hilarious the
Times sounds when you're a little bit drunk? (It's not the same reading the Internet
version. I've tied.)
So who needs Pynchon stoned when you've got the Times delivered daily and
no grade point average to worry about.
Oddly the article cited was written by a guy with the same name as the
designer of St Paul's. Imagine how funny THAT might be under the
influence.
