VL's blue-jays

My girlfriend (who likes P.'s books okay but is not a fanatic) mentioned
that when she turned back to the beginning of VL immediately after
finishing it a couple of days ago, it seemed to her that the blue-jay
feathers that Desmond's face is full of at the end of VL belong to one of
those blue-jays that are stomping around on the roof and eating his food
at the beginning of the book. She didn't realize that P. is known for
circularity of this type, but it seems to be another, if rather throwaway,
example.
Though a quick archive search for "blue-jay" turned up zero hits, no doubt
some of you who are less (or more?) bird-brained than I noticed this
before.
