I believe the editors involved in the Wanda project (Steve, Fred, T.R.
or maybe it was Bruce) DID send a bunch of stuff to authoritative
experts for forensic analysis -- with the results likely to carry all
the weight of the expert DNA analysis testimony in the O.J. Simpson
trial...

The simple fact of the matter is that Pynchon, if he actually wrote
those letters, has everything to gain by disclaiming them (building a
potent mystique around them, for example) and little to gain (he gets no
royalties). Furthermore, there is the sticky matter of his EXCLUSIVE
CONTRACT with Henry Holt, FOR WHOM HIS WIFE WORKS! Of course she denies
it.
