Whenver I hear a discussion of intention vs. evidence to the
contrary, I am reminded of this description of Judd in "Oklahoma":
"He loved everything and everybody, only he never let on, so nobody
ever knowed."
And yet, intention is always important to the intender. They even
try to derive it in a court of law, from evidence. But we can't
presume intention unless someone does "let on" in some way, however
indirect.
